Coping With a Crying Baby When You Have Twins

While many people love the idea of having a baby, they often do not fully understand the difficulty it may be when the baby cries for extended periods of time. There are may things that can cause a baby to cry, from being hungry, having a wet diaper, or even having colic. When one baby is crying off and on throughout the day, it can seem quite overwhelming, especially to a new parent, but when twins are involved, things can seem much worse. It is estimated that a newborn baby will spend about 2 hours a day crying, so when two babies are involved, it can mean listening to the crying for 4 hours every day.

Many new parents tend to get overly frustrated when their newborn babies won’t stop crying no matter what method is used to get them to stop. There are many techniques that can be used for those who are trying to cope with listening to their twins crying. The first step that any parent needs to take is to try to figure out why the baby is crying and help out as best as possible. If nothing seems to work, it may be time to step away for a few minutes to end the frustration. This is important for the mental health of the parent and for the safety of the newborn babies.

For parents who have twins, both babies are often not able to be comforted at the exact same time which may lead to more crying episodes. When the crying becomes too much to handle, the best thing a parent can do is walk away to regain composure. As long as the babies are in a safe and secure location, such as the crib, then they will be alright while the parents calm down and determine the best approach. Using a voice that is soothing to the newborn will help them calm down as well. It doesn’t matter so much as to what is said as long as it is said with a calming voice. Many parents have found that a singing voice may be much better because it will help calm the babies down and keep everyone else in a more pleasant mood as well. As parents of multiples have found, there are some times that are quite trying, but the time of dealing with crying babies only lasts for a short amount of time.
