Healthy Eating Habits for Kids
The first lady, Michelle Obama, is campaigning against obesity in children. Obesity is on the rise in children and it does not have to be that way. For the most part, children learn by example and parents can make a difference. Incorporating healthy snacks for kids can be fun and easy. Most importantly, when children see that eating healthy is important to their parents it will become important to them. It is never too late to start a healthy meal plan for your children. Even if you do not presently eat as healthy as you would like you can make small changes. The small changes will add up and equal to a healthy family.
Instead of potato chips and cookies have fresh fruit on hand at all times. Your children may resist at first but in time, they too will recognize the benefits of eating healthy snacks instead of snacks with salt and processed sugar. Make it a game and allow your children to be creative and work together to see who can come up with the healthiest snacks. Healthy snacks for kids need not be complicated. Pull out the blender and whip up fruit smoothies and other delicious and healthy drinks. Make almond butter and strawberry fruit sandwiches. This is a tasty and healthier alternative for peanut butter and jelly, which is loaded with sugar. Fresh almond butter and fruit jams can be purchased at health food stores.
Practice what is preached and lead by example. Let them see you eating better snacks. Take a family walk or throw around a football after dinner to promote physical activity as a family. Children will take better to the idea of eating healthier snacks and exercise when they see their parents doing the same. Not only will they benefit but you will too.
It is ideal to teach healthy eating habits early but it is never too late to start. Now is the time to teach children that obesity is not cool. Showing them that you are willing to tackle the obesity monster will also let them know they are not alone. Take small progressive steps towards this goal. Healthy snacks for kids coupled with fun physical activities will practically guarantee their success.
